Abstract

The root of the problem in this research is the fact that many teachers do not have pedagogical and professional competence in teaching in the classroom. The problem in this study is "How are the processes and results of developing learning tools (student textbooks, semester lesson plans and student activity sheets) that can improve the professional and pedagogic competencies of prospective teachers that are valid, practical, and effective?" The purpose of this research is to obtain learning tools that can improve the professional competence and pedagogic competence of prospective teachers that are valid, practical, and effective for research methodology courses. The development phases used are: initial investigation phase, design phase, realization phase and testing phase, evaluation and revision. The results of the first trial (subject 27 people) of the learning tools were not yet practical and not effective, so they were revised. After being revised, the second trial was carried out again. The results of the second trial (subject 32 people), the learning tools were practical, but not yet effective, so they were revised again. After being revised, trial III was carried out. The results of the third trial (subject 33 people), obtained the learning tools were practical and effective. In this study, learning research methodology was obtained using textbooks to improve student competence with the following syntax: orientation, debriefing and/or presentation of questions, working on individual questions, group discussion, presentation of the results of group discussions, and closing, that is valid, practical, and effective.
