Abstract

Algorithm and programming practicum is one of the basic and compulsory courses for the informatics engineering study program. Practicum for this course is conducted with a computer supported laboratory which requires students to be proficient in using computers and software in order to be able to attend these lectures well. The challenges are increasing when the Covid-19 pandemic forces the implementation of lectures to become online lectures. Therefore this study aims to see how students' perceptions of online practicum in algorithm and programming courses in terms of gender differences. This research is a descriptive quantitative research conducted using a survey method with a questionnaire technique. The research population was 76 students of the Informatics Engineering Study Program in semester I who took Algorithm and Programming courses. Samples were taken randomly with a total of 48 students (24 male students and 24 female students). The results showed that in general students had a positive perception of the implementation of algorithmic and programming online practicum lectures. However, in terms of gender differences, there are differences in perceptions of the practicum module related to the ability to find information. Male students were slightly better at finding information on the module than female students (90%: 87%). Perceptions of the implementation of online practicum also show that male students have a better perception than female students (17%) mainly due to the use of supporting software in practicum activities.
